Our Review

WHERE THE ROAD BENDS by Rachel Fordham takes place in Iowa in the 1880’s. This is a second-chance romance.

Norah, a single young woman, is set to marry a much older man in order to save her family’s farm. She discovers a seriously injured stranger on her property and brings him home to nurse back to good health. She knows this is unacceptable behavior but does it anyway. As the stranger heals, they have long conversations that make her wish for more than a marriage of convenience. When her betrothed comes to visit and learns of the man she is nursing back to health, he becomes upset.

Quincey is the bruised and battered boxer being cared for by Norah. He hears the conversation and realizes he needs to move on. He has developed feelings for Norah but has nothing to offer her. Norah gives him some of her father’s old clothes and Quincey leaves, taking something unknowingly with him that changes both their lives.

When they meet again a few years later, life’s twists and turns have led to very different circumstances for both Quincey and Norah.

This story deals with themes of forgiveness, redemption and faith and love.

I enjoyed this story very much. The historical facts in it are accurate for the time period.
