Our Review

Olivia Drake’s WHEN A DUKE LOVES A GOVERNESS has passion, humor, emotional depth, and a rollicking mystery that turns into a grand adventure, a must-read for historical romance fans!

Tessa James works hard with the intent to open her own millinery shop. To do so, she plans to get a loan from the man who sired her, a man she knows only to be a lord who abandoned her mother, who is now deceased. When she must leave her job and the unpleasant woman she works for, she decides to seek out her absentee father by entering his world as a governess.

The Duke of Carlin, Guy Whitby, is at his wit’s end hiring a decent governess for his young daughter, five-year-old Lady Sophy. He can’t connect with her, since he never got on well with her mother or her mother’s people and was away for years. He hires Tessa, desperate for results and trying to ignore his attraction to the young governess.

Their attraction is unexpected and passionate, but Tessa is no governess, and her desire to find her father and be independent doesn’t fit with Guy’s status as a duke. But an insidious enemy has been watching, and Tessa won’t fit into his plans to kill the duke. Guy will have to work hard to undermine his enemy’s plans and save Tessa before the worst can happen.

This story was so well-done, the slow-burn romance heating up the pages at a terrific pace. The romance is lovely, the interactions between Tessa, Sophy, and Guy believable and heartwarming. And the chemistry between the leads is wonderful. Such a terrific Regency romance!
