Our Review

THE NEWCOMBER by Robyn Carr is the first book of hers I’ve read. I really enjoyed the book.

There were actually four relationships in the book, those of:  Mac and Gina, Cooper and Sarah, Sarah’s teenage brother and Mac’s daughter, and the breakup of Downey and Gina’s teenage daughter. The characters were all very real with problems that anyone with teenagers can relate to.

The main love story centers around Cooper and Sarah. When Cooper moves to Thunder Point, Oregon, he meets Sarah and falls for her. Sarah is a Coast Guard pilot, and shortly after the story begins, she is faced with a transfer to Florida.

It’s hard not to love all of these characters, but I prefer stories where the main love interest is the main story. In a story with so many story lines, I find I don’t get as connected to the main characters because the book bounces between too many plot lines. But THE NEWCOMER is still a good read with plenty of interesting characters and a satisfying happily-ever-after.
