Our Review

Jen MacKenzie and TJ Laughlin have known each other since middle school. Jen played Sandy in Grease and TJ developed a crush on her.

Thirteen years later, Jen is her mother’s caregiver because she has cancer. Jen also works at the Stag brewery on weekends as a bartender. The Stag is a well-known wedding venue and stays busy.

Jen’s bosses are Dean, TJ and Jake. They have been friends since high school and went into business together. They make their own alcohol along with having weddings. Jen enjoys working with them, and can’t believe one of them is the boy she had a crush on in high school. Being from the wrong side of the tracks, she knows he is out of her league.

Jen has a problem budgeting her money but she doesn’t want anyone helping her. After her and her mom’s apartment building burns down she doesn’t know what to do. TJ offers a place for them to live until they get back on their feet. Jen doesn’t want a relationship with anyone, but when TJ and Jen become room-mates things start to change between them.

This lighthearted story is centered among weddings and old friends with new ones added in. Learning to accept life as it changes and working toward sharing yourself with somebody can be a hard lesson to learn. New-to-me author Nicole McLaughlin uses language that will bring back memories of yesterday and put a warm spot in your heart.
