Our Review

JUST LIKE MAGIC is all things Christmas and filled with magic. When Hall comes to earth to teach Bettie about the goodness in life and the spirit of Christmas, Bettie is nothing if not skeptical. Since she’s to spend Christmas with her family—a task she dreads—she decides Hall will be her plus-one and that they’re engaged. Her family knows nothing of her current life, which is in total disarray until Hall enters her life and seems to make all her wishes come true.

The story has vivid descriptions of magic, the town, and Christmas. We get to know interesting characters, including Bettie’s grandparents, parents, and three siblings. (Bettie’s siblings are scattered throughout the book and add some fun to the story.) The story has a nice flow set in the present with memories about how things used to be so much simpler. I like that we see not only Hall and Bettie’s relationship grow but also their relationships with family. Bettie starts to embrace life when Hall is around, but what will happen when he needs to return to be assigned to someone else?

The story has closure, especially with the epilogue. The cover is a delight and left me with a good feeling. This is a terrific holiday romance.
