Our Review

CHRISTMAS FROM THE HEART has a lot going for it. A beautiful cover, a nice story filled with good deeds, and a return to Icicle Falls, one of my favorite locations in a book setting.  The book is everything Christmas and a wonderful holiday story.

Olivia has her work cut out for her when there’s more demand for her charity, not only in their small town of Pine River but also in the surrounding towns. Unfortunately, corporations aren’t as giving this year and she’s nothing if not disappointed and angry that Guy Hightower has not stepped up to the plate to help. When their paths unexpectedly cross, things take an interesting turn.

Guy is taking a hard look at his life and work habits, but will that be enough for Olivia? Only time will tell. The inclusion of her father and brother gave the story depth, as did the relationships between the townspeople.

The story flows nicely but does get bogged down occasionally.  I didn’t like Morris’ attitude throughout most of the book and didn’t see what Olivia saw in him, even as a friend. The descriptions were vivid and gave the story a well-rounded Christmas feel. The ending is lovely, as are the recipes in the back of the book. I may give some of them a try!

Ms. Roberts is one of my go-to authors. I like her series as well as her stand-alone books. Her stories are always big on family, friends, and small towns. I wouldn’t mind revisiting Pine River again next Christmas, hint, hint!
