Hi
Kim and welcome. I am so glad you could join us here at RomanceJunkies.
To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your
current projects?
BREACH
OF TRUST, my first published novel, was released in May. It
is a sexy contemporary romance set in the exciting world of
venture capital.
|
INVISIBLE,
the book I was meant to write, will be available in February
2009.
Another contemporary romance, it is a scavenger hunt through the world
of hidden identities.
After
I wrote INVISIBLE, I thought "I'll never write another novel
as good" but I recently finished up the sequel and I love that
book too. My awesome test readers will verify or dispute whether it
is as good.
Q:
Do you remember what your first real writing project was?
Did you write it out by hand or use some other method?
I
was hired by a regional daily newspaper to cover my local town council
meetings. Growing up dirt poor, I was amazed that someone would actually
pay me to write. It blew my teenage mind.
It
was not without its challenges. I knew nothing about politics, absolutely
nothing. I knew people though so I focused on the characters and personalities.
My chatty articles made me no friends amidst the rather pompous politicians
but wow, did readers love them!
Q: Youre
pounding away the keyboard, and it is time for a break. How do you
spend the time? Walking around? Checking email? Something else?
I
run a dozen blogs so checking email is a compulsion. I receive about
1,000 legit emails a day. This can be a challenge when I'm traveling.
Did
you know there are some airports in the world without wi-fi? Yeah,
I know, crazy talk.
Q:What
skills would you like to further develop as an author, be it with
respect to your writing, or the publishing and marketing side of the
business?
I'm
a business gal. I didn't take any writing courses in school and it
shows. My strength is in delivering a unique story, not in grammar.
I haven't figured out how to punctuate dialogue properly. I have a
great, great pre-editor Mandy Worthy, a team of test readers, and
then my editors and line editors at Champagne Books to help straighten
out the writing bit.
Q:
Which room in your home do you like best?
Staring
right now at the builder's primer on my ten-year old walls.
Martha
Stewart has nothing to fear from me. I love our bedroom. The hubby
and I spend most of our time there, reading, playing on the computers,
and, well
sleeping. Betcha thought I was going to say something
naughty, didn't you?
Q: When
you want to watch a movie, do you prefer going to the theatre or do
you like to be all comfy and cozy at home?
I
prefer to watch a movie in bed. I have yet to find a theatre with
a bed option. Nothing like snuggling under the covers with the hubby.
'Course
that is provided I get through a movie. I'm not a big TV or movie
watcher.
Q:
What is one of your favorite activities that your friends and family
consider to be rather weird?
Well,
I work out on my exercise bike in my underwear. When I mentioned that
to a buddy, she spit water out her nose. I just assumed everyone did.
Isn't that a perk to working out at home?
Q: If
you could meet and spend the day with anyone in the world, famous
or not, who would you choose, and why?
Tough
question. First, I'd exclude the dead people because although I've
seen ghosts before, I'm a big scaredy cat. I've met quite a few of
my writing heroines so that leaves the business world. I'd hang out
with Warren Buffett. He's the best investor in the world plus he has
a killer sense of humor. For example: He suggested changing the tagline
for Fruit Of The Loom to "We cover the asses of the masses."
Needless to say, that suggestion wasn't taken.
Q:
How do you describe Kimber Chin? How does Kimber Chins husband
describe her?
My
mom tells me as a child, I was ugly as sin (my hair kept falling out
in patches), but I was always smiling so folks would smile along with
me. I'm tough when I need to be but at heart, a happy person. The
hubby is an even happier person. He laughs in his sleep. Nothing like
waking up in the middle of night to the person you love laughing head
off, a big boyish smile across his face. I fall in love all over again.
MORE
FUN
Q:
Who is the person who has had the biggest influence on your life?
Whom will you pass this influence on to?
My
mom was definitely the biggest influence. When my dad ran out (and
we were thankful he did), she raised the six of us on her own. A strong
woman. She was also confident enough to match me up with mentors.
She knew I had an interest in finance and business and not having
that knowledge herself, paired me up with neighbors and friends.
It
doesn't look like the hubby and I will be blessed with kids (though
miracles do happen) but we both mentor up and comers. Mentorship is
expected from business leaders. I gained from it and now I happily
give back.
Q: Name
the one bug that will have run screaming from the room?
I'm
a country girl now living in the city so nothing much 'bugs' me. I
would hide coffee canisters of ants under my bed for my Mom to find.
I hate maggots though. I always associate them with the smell of rotting
flesh so seeing them makes me gag.
Q:What
does this romance writer wear at night?
I
have daytime pajamas for my summers writing and then nighttime pajamas
to sleep in. Right now, Im wearing pajamas with dogs drinking
martinis on them. When a great song comes on, the hubby will yell
out "make those dogs dance." I'm not the best dancer in
the world but I sure do enjoy it.
Q:Are
you a breakfast person? Do you like breakfast foods at other times
of the day?
Having
grown up on a farm, I wouldn't eat eggs for the longest time.
Some
days, that was all we'd eat and if the hens didn't lay, we didn't
eat. However, pain du chocolait, well, that I could eat morning, noon
and night. Breakfast of champions.
Q:
And lastly, no interview of a writer would be complete without this
question: what is your favorite comfort food?
Nutella,
straight from the jar.
Thank
you, Kimber, for taking time out of your writing schedule to spend
with us. Continued success with your writing!
