Speed Date Interview with Logan Winter from Eclipse of the Heart

August 08, 2013 By: Romance Junkies Category: Guest Blogger, Speed Date Interview

Eclipse-200x300Speed Date Interview with Logan Winter from Eclipse of the Heart

Well, helloooo Logan Winter! It is my very great pleasure to meet you today…Let’s get started!

1. What do you do for work? Wheel and deal – I mean I buy and sell companies.

2. What do you do for fun? What could be more fun than wheeling and dealing?

3. Where are you from? The city I was born in has an airport with the same name as mine. (I enjoy riddles.) Currently, I live in Manhattan, but I’m not tied to any one place.

4. Tell us something about your past. No past. It’s a closed book. Next?

5. When was your last relationship and how long did it last? Life is fleeting. I’m not into permanence.

6. What do you need in a relationship? Is this a PG site? [Looks around.] Okay, then, I can’t use that 3-letter word beginning with an ‘s’ and ending in ‘x’.

7. What do you bring to a relationship? Money. Connections. What else is there? [Grins] Besides that word I can’t say.

8. Do you want to marry or have you ever been married? Never been married. Not on my bucket list.

9. Do you believe in love at first sight? I didn’t, until Amanda presented me with the surprise of a lifetime.

10. Is sexual compatibility important to you? Are you kidding? It’s mandatory.

11. How do you spend your spare time? I enjoy most outdoor activities like sailing and skiing.  And one particular indoor activity. Is this site still PG?

12. Describe your perfect vacation. Give me a hot woman and an exotic location. I’ll take care of the rest.

13. Are you a morning person or a night person? Night. Remember my favorite indoor activity?

14. What is your fairy tale? Uh, fairy tales? Okay, Snow White. I figure I can beat out seven dwarves.

15. What is the longest relationship (not sexual) you have had with animal, vegetable or tangible? Does my airplane count? I have a cool Learjet and one item that is on my bucket list is to learn how to fly it.

16. What do you need that you don’t have, Logan? [Long silence.] Some things are just not possible.

17. Where can we learn more about you?

Here’s the Blurb for my story, Eclipse of the Heart: Amanda Thompson is offered her dream job as a junior executive at a Manhattan venture firm. The terms are a little vague, but she has a seriously ill sister to provide for, and her new boss is a seriously attractive man. Failure is not an option, so she’ll keep her eye on the prize, and her heart and body out of the mix…despite the boss’s overly personal interest in her.

Logan Winter is a hard-driving business tycoon who likes his sex life hot and his emotional life cold. His new high-end call girl is a little different from the ordinary bimbos who fill the role. That’s okay, since he’s ready for different. Even discovering the mistake that’s been made is okay, because he knows how to get what he wants…and he wants Amanda.

And, here’s an excerpt:

“I’m not attracted to you!” Amanda’s breath strangled in her throat as she fought a moan. She’d known it was a mistake to allow her new boss, Logan Winter, to book them into the same hotel room, even if it was a two-bedroom suite.

“Are you sure about that?” Logan asked.

His tongue licked her lips and her mouth fell open, without any decision on her part. He swept in, and this time he kissed her hard. So hard she had to kiss him back. So hard that their tongues couldn’t avoid tangling. So hard that it was only natural for his arms to sweep around her and crush her to him.

She tasted whiskey on his tongue, smelled heat on his skin, and heard murmurs of approval in his throat.

No, she wasn’t sure about anything. Except the fact that she couldn’t do this. She couldn’t be thinking about twining her legs around his waist, or falling back on the plush sofa and turning it into a bed.

His mouth moved down her neck as he pressed kisses both hard and tender to her. He bit her where her neck met her shoulder, just as his roaming hands feathered over her breasts. Her purse fell to the floor, and the thump registered a wake-up call.

“Logan,” she said, struggling to repeat the words. Lie or not, she had to say them to stop this dangerous madness. “I’m not attracted to you.”

He released her just enough to look down at her. “So why are your nipples hard?”

“Because you’ve been manhandling them!”

His half smile showed, though his face looked a little strained. “Yeah, technically I suppose they have been handled by a man. With great pleasure.”

“I’ve had a long day.” If she didn’t get out of this room, she might grab him. “I’d like to retire to my room. Will you need me tonight for work?”

He raised his brows. “Yes, I will need you,” he said firmly. “Perhaps you’d like to change into something more comfortable?” He glanced at his watch. “Shall we say half-an-hour?”

“Fine.” She suppressed a sigh. He had told her this would be her first night on the job. “Though I don’t need to change,” she added. “What will you want me to do?”

His gaze, which had been lingering on her breasts, snapped to her face.

“Amanda, you’re a sharp woman. Right from the beginning I liked that about you.”

She took a step back. “Your point is?”

“Look, unless you’re wearing a plaid skirt and knee socks, the ingénue approach isn’t my thing.”

“The ingénue approach?” He’d reduced her to a parrot.

“The dumb, innocent act. Even in the right outfit, it wouldn’t be my first choice.”

“I …” She opened and closed her mouth. Words failed her. Had she taken a job with a pervert? Damn! It had seemed so perfect! “What are you talking about?”

“Are you new at this?” he demanded, his eyes narrowing as he looked down at her. “Because I’ve told the agency I want only experienced women. And no games.”

“You know exactly what my experience is. And if you don’t like to play games, then stop speaking in riddles. Just tell me plainly what you want.”

“Fine.” He jerked his hand toward her. “Get undressed.”

Marina Maddix ~ Speed Date Interview

March 21, 2013 By: Romance Junkies Category: Latest News, Speed Date Interview

Vegas Knights
DESCRIPTION:
After a passionate public encounter with a mysterious and very sexy biker, big girl Kelly Saunders finds herself on the ride of her life. Her ‘Knight on shining armor’ — Rick Knight, billionaire heir to a motorcycle legacy — whisks her away from her soul-sucking corporate job to Las Vegas, where she finds the road to love is treacherous.
As urgent business matters demand more and more of Rick’s attention, Kelly is left to wonder about the future of their relationship. A ruthless betrayal throws her life into turmoil, and a devastating discovery threatens to pull them apart. Is their love just so much Vegas glitter or is it strong enough to survive beyond the dazzling lights of Sin City?
EXCERPT:
They sat entwined under the stars, swaying slightly with the rhythm of their own bodies. Rick’s hands moved slowly from her hair down her back. Shivers of anticipation rippled through Kelly. They were going to make love under the stars. It had always been a fantasy of hers but she’d never imagined it would come true. But a lot of things she’d never imagined were happening lately.
Feeling the need to show him she wasn’t some precious flower that needed tending and special care, that she was an independent woman, Kelly took control. His eyes never left her body as she moved to stand over him, legs spread, hands on her hips.
“Strip.” The single word brought a knowing smirk to Rick’s face. Without a word, and still never taking his eyes from her, he eased his off his jacket, throwing it aside. His gaze was positively smoldering as he loosened his tie and started to pull it over his head.
“Leave it.” Kelly commanded on impulse. His hands paused, then dropped to the front of his charcoal Armani button-down, his eyes burning into her flesh like a brand. His fingers worked slowly, deliberately, intensifying her need for him. But she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing her impatience. Cocking her hip, she let him tease her with his leisurely pace.
When the shirt was lying atop the leather jacket, he looked up expectantly, awaiting her next instruction. When she nodded toward his pants, triumph flashed across his face. She realized her mistake as he moved to stand. Once on his feet, he would tower over her, emphasizing her vulnerability and his dominance.
“On second thought, scratch that.” One of his eyebrows shot up, and a look of exasperation took the place of triumph. She knew the score and she wasn’t going to give him an advantage if she could help it. He leaned back on his elbows — shirtless and irresistible — and studied her.
She couldn’t afford to make a misstep or show any hesitation. This had become less of a game for her and more of a demand for equality in this relationship. He may be rich, but that didn’t mean he was in control here. Either he accepted that they were in this together, as equal partners, or he would be taught that lesson. Of course, she suspected that would be a lesson he might enjoy learning.

EXCERPT:

Before Amanda knew it, she was up the steps and inside her room. She shoved the door open to the narrow walk-in closet and dropped to the floor, panting. Amanda pressed her hand against her ribs. She cringed when a pain shot through her side. Jeez, she needed to workout more. She reached over and picked up the stuffed animal. The frog had black beaded eyes, and its mouth hung open, revealing a red felt tongue.

A loud bash and footsteps barreling up the stairs brought Amanda to her feet. She caught a glimpse of a figure clad in dark clothes at the top of the stairs. Startled, she screamed and slammed the closet door shut. She pressed her back against the door and braced her feet on the wall. The door pushed open a few inches, pressing her chest to her knees like an accordion. She screamed from the top of her lungs and pushed with her feet off the wall. Clothes and hangers plummeted to the ground like a hailstorm. The door slammed shut.

Pound! Pound! The vibration from the fist striking echoed in the small space.

“Miss Price, open this door now,” a man commanded, his voice muffled. “This is Agent Romero, and if I have to force this door open, you could get hurt.”

Relief flooded through her. She crawled a few steps away and crumbled to the floor.

The door flew open, and Romero towered over her. “What the hell kind of stunt are you trying to pull?”

Struggling to sit up, she couldn’t make herself answer. Although she knew he wasn’t going to hurt her, the fear surfaced. Her breath hitched. Moisture swam in her eyes.

“Stop that! Tears won’t work with me. I have sisters.” He reached down, locked his fingers around her forearms, and helped her into a sitting position.

With the backs of her hands, Amanda wiped her eyes. She took a deep, calming breath and said, “You scared the pee out of me.”

“I hope not. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Romero knelt down, and his dark gaze connected with hers. “Why did you run from the subway like a bat out of Hell?” he questioned, his tone controlled. “Miss Price, were you trying to lose me?”

She noticed although his skin glistened from the pursuit, he wasn’t even winded. She shook her head and held up the frog clutched in her hands.

Frowning, he stared at the frog and glanced back at her. “Explain, please.”

“I—I got this for my birthday,” she said with a sniff.

“Aw, that explains it. You had separation anxiety from your newly acquired pet.”

“You are a very obnoxious man.”

“Thanks. Now please enlighten me why this frog is so important you had to race home for it.”

Her gaze fluttered downward to the frog in her hands. “It was in a box at my front door. I thought it was kind of a strange gift. But I just tossed it in my closet and forgot about it.”

Romero frowned, his black hair falling over his forehead. “Who sent the gift?”

“Well, that was the strange thing. It didn’t say. It just said ‘Happy Birthday Mandy.’”

“And who calls you Mandy…your father?”

“Yes—but so does all my family and a few friends. It’s been my nickname since birth,” she explained.

“So this could be the package your father sent you? Let me see it.” He took the frog from her as they both stood. Romero turned away and said into his shoulder, “O’Riley and Youngblood, all clear. Meet me in front of Miss Price’s residence.” Then he listened while the agents responded.

“Calling in the troops?”

Smirking, Romero replied, “No calling them down. When you took off, I had my team cover the exits until I knew what you were up to.”

Amanda began to follow him to the door. She didn’t make it halfway across the room before the bedroom window shattered. Shards of glass crashed to the floor. She screamed, shielding her face with her hands.

“Get down!” His solid body knocked her to the floor.

Book blurb:

Possessed of a brilliant mind and a love for puzzles, Dashiell Matthews, Viscount Carrington, is a crucial member of the elite Young Corinthians spy league. Assuming the façade of an addle-brained Adonis, he hunts for a notorious London murderer known as the Bishop. When fate causes him to cross paths with Miss Elena Barnes, Dash discovers an enigma that will prove delightfully intoxicating to unravel: a voluptuous beauty as intelligent as she is fearless.

Only the lure of a collection of rare books bequeathed to her family by Dash’s late father could tempt Elena from her cozy rural life to the crush and vanity of London. But if Elena finds his lordship to be the most impossibly beautiful man she’s ever seen, he also seems to be the stupidest. Which made her body’s shameless response to his masterful seduction all the more unfathomable. Yet when she discovers Dash’s mission to track the dangerous Bishop, she willingly risks everything—her trust, her heart, her very life—to join him.

Excerpt:

“Oh!” Miss Barnes exclaimed in a hushed tone, her excited intake of breath pulling Dash from his thoughts.

She rushed toward the end of the aisle, skidding to a halt in front of a glass case situated against the wall.

Dash couldn’t help himself. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and he followed.

“Giacomo Paolini’s Abecedary,” Miss Barnes whispered, as though speaking a sacred prayer within the walls of a grand cathedral.

Dash moved closer to the case, studying the book. Its presence was wholly surprising. His father must have acquired the volume shortly before his death.

“Have you read it, Miss Barnes?” he asked, breathing in her delicate floral scent as he did so. He couldn’t readily identify the flower.

“Hardly,” she replied, leaning closer to the case, her brow nearly skimming the glass. “This volume— the only one still in existence, mind you— was lost for years.

Your father was incredibly fortunate to find it, my lord.”

“Mmh,” he replied, distracted. Rose? No, the scent was more complex than that. Lavender? He discreetly breathed deeper, dragging in more of her elusive scent, suddenly desperate to know.

Bergamot.

“Ha,” he declared.

Miss Barnes jumped. “I beg your pardon, my lord?” she asked, looking at him as though he were mad.

Really. I’m not the one gushing over an old book.

Dash fought the urge to say the sentence out loud and instead, straightened his crisp cravat. “Funny that, wouldn’t you agree? My father found a book that so many could not,” he replied, looking at the volume with what he hoped was childlike glee. “Were there many people looking for it?”

“Oh, yes,” her voice brimmed with enthusiasm. “The late Lord Carrington was not the man who actually found the volume, of course. But we can all be thankful he had the foresight to provide such an admirable and efficient home for it. Look here,” she gestured at the case. “See how it is perfectly situated away from the sunlight . . .”

Dash hardly heard a word she said. He couldn’t pull his gaze away from the fascinating quality of her skin and the flush of color from her cheeks, down the curve of her throat, to the neckline of her dress.

“And the case? Why isn’t it stacked with the rest of the books?” he wondered aloud.

He knew exactly why, of course. Direct sunlight would compromise the already fragile pages. But he wanted to watch her hands as she talked, gesturing and pointing this way and that, as expressive as the excited cadence of her speech and tone.

Dash wondered why he was noticing her hands. They were, after all, only hands. She possessed a pair just as nearly every other human being on the planet did.

What was he doing? He wasn’t supposed to be interested in Miss Barnes. He just needed her to pack up the books and go back to Dorset, as soon as possible.

“Fascinating stuff,” he interrupted her careful explanation, needing to be anywhere but next to Miss Barnes. “But I’m afraid I must be off. I’ll leave you to your books.”

She smiled at him shyly. “Of course, my lord. This must all be terribly boring to you,” she replied, curtsying.

Dash bowed and turned to go.

“Thank you, my lord,” she added. “You’ve no idea what these books mean to me— and my father, of course.”

Dash paused, but did not turn around, fearful that she’d draw him back. “Oh, don’t thank me, Miss Barnes. It’s all my father’s doing.”

It was the truth, after all. Though Dash was having a hard time being thankful to his father for anything at the moment.

“I look forward to seeing you at dinner, my lord.”

The woman could not bear to relinquish the last word.“Yes, Miss,” he replied.

“Excellent.”

BIO

Jessica James started her professional career as a veterinary technician, specializing in horses. She worked for 18 years as newspaper reporter and editor before diving into writing fiction. She currently balances the sedentary life of a writer with working part-time as a stagehand at a performing arts theater. Her latest novel Noble Cause is the recipient of the coveted John Esten Cooke Award for Southern Fiction among other national awards. Her first novel Shades of Gray, also an epic Civil War love story, twice overtook Gone with the Wind on the Amazon bestseller list in its category James is featured in the book 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading, published in 2010.

Excerpt

Hunter heard a voice and felt fingers probing his shoulder. Although his arm throbbed with pain, the touch felt tender and soothing upon his bare flesh. He tried to force the cobwebs from his brain, to clear his blurred vision and mind. Opening his eyes and blinking at the pain, he stared at the face leaning over him.

He thought he recognized the countenance—but no, that could not be. The image could not be of the one he had quarreled with just four days earlier. He saw no sign of the hatred and anger that blazed so fervently then, nor any sign of the customary sullen frown. All that showed there now was deep concern and a look of tenderness.

He closed his eyes and tried to think. Tired. So tired.

After being hit, he had fallen. Perhaps he had hit his head and was hallucinating now. Or perhaps he was just so exhausted he was having a strange dream. Strange, indeed. Because the woman he had left in the next room would be more inclined to strangle him than bend over him in aid.

Hunter blinked at the intensity of light flooding through the window while gazing upon the worried face. He became more certain he was dreaming, but decided to talk to the apparition. “What do you think, Doc?” He hoped he had actually spoken the words aloud, because it was only with supreme effort that he retained consciousness.

The figure did not respond right away. She seemed intent on cleaning the wound. Or maybe, Hunter thought, she really is just a figment of my exhausted imagination.

“It appears a bullet has pierced your celestial armor, Major,” she answered at last. “Unfortunately, it does not appear to be fatal.”

She did not lift her eyes at first, but when she did bring them up to meet his, they brimmed with amusement. Hunter thought he had never seen anything so beautiful, so exquisite, as those two dazzling green eyes filled with laughter. He contrasted the image to the raving, maddened woman he left, but could find no comparison. Where did this person come from or where had the other gone? He hoped they had switched places for good.

BIO

I wrote my first short story when I was eleven and have never ceased writing since, although only recently have I been able to return to my first love, fiction.  During the years when I was scrambling to make money, I supported myself by teaching in universities in the United States, Canada and Australia, and by writing professional books in my field.  Fortunately for me, those books were highly successful. My research took me to many interesting places.  I lived in Europe, Australia, the United States and Canada. I spent considerable time in still other places, Iceland, the Caribbean Islands, the Far East, and the Torres Strait Islands off the coast of New Guinea. Now I travel for pleasure. Portugal, Greece and Italy are favorite haunts. My books are set in places I know and love and are peopled with characters drawn from my experiences of those places.   The Memory of Roses takes readers to the Greek Island of Corfu, where a young woman finds her future while searching for her father’s past.  In Delighting in Your Company, the reader is transported to a small island in the Caribbean, with a heroine who finds herself in the unenviable position of falling in love with a ghost.  My setting for Sonata is the city of Vancouver, with its vibrant multicultural population and its rich musical life, and my heroine is a musician who finds herself in unexpected danger.

I hope you will enjoy reading these books as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
