Character Crush – Shirin Dubbin
Confession: I am in luv with Curran from the “Kate Daniels Series” by Ilona Andrews, Carlos Rivera in L.A Banks’ “Vampire Huntress Legends,” and Jamie MacKinnion from Johanna Lindsey’s “A Gentle Feuding.” Yes, I know this makes me stranger than the offspring of a Lady GaGa, Adam Lambert lovefest *sigh* but it’s true.
All three characters are very different from my actual tastes in men. Thinking on it, perhaps that’s the draw. As romantic figures these guys are gorgeous fantasies. I adore their ugly ways, their heroics, and their macho antics. Even their missteps add flavor to their characters. If you’ve ever had a crush on the hero of a book you’ll know what I mean.
In life they’d be too much to handle. Could you imagine? A girl would never get any rest helping to rule the various were-creatures of Atlanta; or aiding in negotiations with the Vampire Council. Imagine being the Lady of the MacKinnions among feuding Highland clans. Jeez. I won’t even mention what insatiable sexual appetites these characters have. As one of their wives you’d need to buy stock in Red Bull and pop a whole lot of ginseng.
Envisioning the logistics of life with real men like these is off-putting…but that makes the fantasies so much hotter.
Celia Sweet and I wanted just such a character for our erotic romance Halloween novella, Dusk Takes Dawn. I think we got him. Dusk is fierce yet thoughtful. He’s impossible to live with (seriously bossy), or to live more than an hour without (lovable in his machismo). And talk about insatiable—woo! He’s also a gargoyle from a cursed race (there go those logistics again). Adding up all his traits, Dusk is a romantic hero for true; and Celia and I are hoping you’ll have your own confession to make once you’ve read his story. Maybe you’ll be a little in luv with Dusk too.
DUSK TAKES DAWN Blurb:
Paranormal peacekeepers, Dawn Maza, the witch with a capital ‘B’, and Duskan Entreri, one helluva beast, are partners and lovers… Actually, they are in love. They’re not lovers yet. Stone separates them, making her a statue at night while he turns to granite by day, and the two have never consummated their love. Instead, they communicate via video and voice mail. That travesty will change tonight.
Under the advisement of a crone—who may or may not have ulterior motives—the pair must freeze time for a single chance at igniting the All Hallows sky with the fires of their passion.
Dusk and Dawn are up for the task. Halloween is about to get sexy.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
The writing team of Celia Sweet and Shirin Dubbin could easily be called “sweet & salty”. Sex coach and southern belle, Celia, pours on naughty interludes as smooth as honey. While urban fantasy romance author and southern girl, Shirin, crackles with popcorn-crunching action. And their take on romance? Well, darlin’, it’s better than your favorite dessert topped with a scoop of ice cream while a boy-toy serves it. Tasty!
Celia, although naughty, is quite shy but Shirin is always ready to chat. Catch up with Shirin and maybe Celia too on the web at www.fan-fatale.com, on twitter http://twitter.com/Shirin_Dubbin, and on facebook http://www.facebook.com/shirin.dubbin.

Great post, Shirin! I so agree with you. I fall in love with the strangest creatures in the books I read. So different from my hubby, but that is the appeal. It is so much fun to fantasize.

Oh Shirin I know what you’re saying!! I am totally head over heels in love with Eric Northman from the Southern Vampire (or I guess TrueBlood) series! I was totally into his character before I even saw the show, there is just something about him! Even though he is a total badass, I still just adore him!! I also totally fell for the weretiger in the series too!! Yum!! I love tigers and I love hot me, so for me it didnt get much better than a hot man that can turn into a tiger!!!

I agree that keeping up with some of these heroes could be hard to take and hard to do too lol. Especially ones like the hero is Johanna Lindsey Warrior Woman. Talk about a barbarian. Wouldn’t know whether to jump him or kill him. lol.
This book sounds fantastic. I am definitely going to have to check it out further. Need to know the reason she turns to stone at night. I know about gargoyles turning to stone during the day but am curious about her situation.

@Ashley, Eric is another great character crush! The book where Sookie finds him running naked along the side of the road held me rapt. I’ve always preferred him to Bill. Oh and I remember Quinn, the were-tiger too. Sookie gets the best men.
@Debby, Thanks! When a character is well written they really take hold of my imagination.
@Pamk, I luv Warrior’s Woman!! It was the first book I’d read where romance met sci-fi. As a kid SF/F, and historical romance were my top genres, Johanna Lindsey my favorite author. Then she went and wrote a SF/R mash-up and I became her minion.

Con’t
@Pamk, You’re right about Challen, the hero of Warrior’s Woman, the minute he tried that spanking business there’d be civil war in our castle.
I hope you enjoy DtD. Let me know your thoughts if you get a chance.
Before I go, another of my CC’s is Jericho Barrons from Karie Marie Moning’s Fever series. My, oh my!
