I am so glad you could join us here at RomanceJunkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current projects?

 Jennifer: Thank you , I would love too! I’m launching  my new Adult Contemporary series, with THE PROPOSITION, Book One in The Plus One Chronicles.

 When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?

 Jennifer: It was more of a process. I remember wanting to be a writer in high school, and I wrote quite a bit then, however I didn’t have the confidence to think I could become an author. It was later, after I was married and had children, that I developed the confidence to go after my dream, with the full support of my husband.

 Every writer dreams of getting “the call”. What were you doing when yours came? Who got to hear the good news first?

Jennifer:  I was Christmas shopping and came home to a message on my answering machine. Once I got in touch with the editor, I called my husband, Mom and sister. It was an incredible moment, and all the more poignant as my mother had always believed in me, but was ill when I got the call. She was so thrilled. Unfortunately, she passed before the book was released, but I got to share a lot of the process of getting published with her.

 Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?

 Jennifer: Marueen Child told me to put my backside in the chair and write! That’s the best advice for any writer—it’s all too easy to get side tracked by research, worry about about our submission, promotion, social media or life in general when we should be writing.

 Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you?

 Jennifer: A strong, self-confident man with a dark internal struggle (often against his past), and who has a sense of humor.

 In real life, of course my husband.  My three sons, but in particular, my son that suffered a badly broken leg that changed the course of his life. He is handling the injury with a grace, patience, determination and humor far beyond his years. He’s truly my hero, along with his two brothers who have been there for him every step of the way.

 What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?

 Jennifer: I need to develop an interesting hobby to talk about! I read, swim, bake, workout, and hang out with friends.

 What has been your biggest adventure to date?

 Jennifer: In writing? Deciding to self publish The Plus Once Chronicles rather than try submitting it to New York Publishers.

 In life? I’m not that adventurous J  Almost all my adventures are accidental, and usually the result of something stupid I’ve done.

 If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why?

 Jennifer: Australia because I love a hunk with an Australian accent. And yeah, I am that shallow!

 When it comes to food, are you the adventurous type who will try anything once, or do you prefer to stick to tried and true foods and recipes?

 Jennifer: Nope, not adventurous. I like tried and true for the most part. I’m more adventurous in baking than cooking.

 How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you?

 Jennifer: An average wife, mom and writer.  My family and friends have various descriptions, but I’m just gonna take the fifth on that!

 And lastly, no interview of a writer would be complete without this question: what is your favorite comfort food?

 Jennifer: Chocolate. I love Molten Lava Chocolate Cake, Kaluha chocolate cake, brownies, chocolate chips cookies and so much more! Of course, I try not to eat a lot of it, but I would if I had a supersized metabolism.

 What is your favorite season? What do you love about it?

 Jennifer: I like all the seasons! But I think maybe summer because we love hanging out by the pool. My husband and I don’t go on vacations much because we’re homebodies, and decided instead to get the pool and hot tub. We really enjoy it.

 What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without?

Jennifer:  Only one? I’m sweating just thinking about it! I’d have to say computer.

 What is this romance writer’s idea of the “ideal romantic evening”?

Jennifer: Going to dinner with my husband, then coming home and having a drink in the hot tub.

 What project are you working on next?

 Jennifer: The next two books in the series, POSSESSION that we hope to release 5.28.13 and OBSESSION will be released 9.24.13

About Jennifer:

Jennifer Lyon grew up under the shadow of the Matterhorn at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. She attended Walt Disney elementary school and her very first playmate was her beloved dog, Duke, who was cast in the role of hero in all their adventures.

Clearly Jen was born to daydream. But it took her years to figure out how to turn her imagination into a career as an author.
