I am so glad you could join us here at RomanceJunkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current projects?
Cynthia: I have several projects underway right now in various stages. Most are paranormal romances, and I have a historical percolating as well. I can’t be more specific than that because I don’t know which project will come to the forefront.
When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?
Cynthia: I don’t think I actually came to it the way most people do. Back in the late 1990s I worked for a Human Resources Director who used to take half a day to write a two-paragraph business letter, and one day she made the remark that “HR people can’t write.” She to this day remains my least favorite boss, and at the time she made that comment I was pretty fed up with her. So I decided to show her that some HR people actually can write.
Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?
Cynthia: Read, read, read, not only in the genre you write, but in other genres, too.
What are some of your favorite pastimes?
Cynthia: Do you have any hobbies or collections? For the past several years I’ve basically been working two full-time jobs–my day job as a Human Resources Manager and my job as an author. When I’m not working at one of those two jobs, I’m reading or watching TV. I’m really rather boring, actually.
What has been your biggest adventure to date?
Cynthia: I’ve had a couple of “life” adventures in the last decade or so. The first would be moving from Ohio to Arizona without any job prospects (and managing to find work just 3 weeks after moving). The second was when I decided to start my writing career, in 2005. I sold my house, quit my job and took almost a year to focus on writing.
If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why?
Cynthia: Oh, Ireland hands-down. My father’s family is from Donegal, and I’d love to visit there. Actually, anywhere or maybe more accurately everywhere in Ireland.
When it comes to food, are you the adventurous type who will try anything once, or do you prefer to stick to tried and true foods and recipes?
Cynthia: I will usually try new things, unless it’s something really, really out there, like live baby octopus or something that smells bad. My gag reflex is very easily triggered. I don’t think I need to go any farther than that.
What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without?
Cynthia: Living in the desert as I do, I’d have to go with air conditioning. I can’t imagine living here in the summer when the humidity is up and temps are over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
What is your favorite comfort food?
Cynthia: On the savory side, fried chicken. On the sweet side, white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.
What is your favorite season? What do you love about it?
Cynthia: When I lived in Ohio, my favorite season was Autumn, because of the beauty of all the colors of the leaves changing. Now that I live in southeast Arizona, it’s definitely winter. I’m very excited when our highs don’t get out of the 50s!
Any place we can find you in person or on the net this month or next?
Cynthia: In person I’ll be at the Tucson Festival of Books March 9th and 10th, held at the University of Arizona in Tucson. On the net you can always find me at my website (http://cynthiagarnerbooks.com), on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cynthia-Garner/254199854599157) and Twitter (@CynthiaGarner).
Blurb: Once a generation, the rift between the paranormal world and the human world opens, allowing supernatural entities to cross. Vampire, demon, or shapeshifter, they can save the world—or send it spiraling into chaos. In the third installment of Cynthia Garner’s Warriors of the Rift series, a rogue group of human-hating preternaturals are planning the apocalyptic attack, but the Council of Preternaturals may have found the key to saving the world: Keira O’Brien, a fey with a long criminal record, whose empathic abilities once made her the queen of con artists. If she successfully infiltrates the dangerous faction, the sins of her past will be forgiven. But Keira isn’t the only agent working against the rogue prets. Finn Evnissyen, a powerful demon with a dark lineage, is a hired assassin looking for a way out. If he stops the threat, he will finally earn his freedom. As the rift fast approaches, and danger escalates, Finn and Keira must discover if they’re on the same side—or sleeping with the enemy.

Great Q&A! I do not know how anyone could survive the desert without A/C. That sun feels like an open oven… you could melt away!
Ireland is one of the places I would love to see one day…
Thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed the interview and I agree that Ireland would be a fantastic place to visit. I’d like to see the whole of the British Isles myself, every country has it’s charms and it would be a dream come true trip for me.

It looks like a fascinating story and you must be very organized to be able to work two full time jobs.

Great interview. I enjoy the state of Arizona–Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Tuscon, there’s that place–not sure where–but its a couple hours drive from Phoenix to a lake down in a valley–beautiful spot if I remembered the name. …went golfing while I was in Phoenix once but I’m not a golfer. Started at 7am on a June morning and by 9 am I was ready for shade and a cold beer.
