Episodes vs. Serialized Fiction:
The Weigh-In from the authors of Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories;
Ty Langston, Riley Ross, and Tigris Eden
Ty Langston Responds:
Ever have one of those lazy Sundays where still in your pj’s you wake up late with coffee in hand, and watch from beginning to end your favorite TV series on your DVR or via a DVD player?
Episodic TV when written right as well all know can be not only addicting, but fun, but also leaves you satisfied for only so long until the following weeks episode.
When Tigris Eden and I thought about expanding our writing brand, we initially were going to do Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories as monthly blog subscription. But since, that didn’t work out, we came up with the idea of anthologized books that are albeit similar to serialized novels, these are different in the way we are presenting them.
Complete with previews, our reading audience is presented with a lineup of Episodes, each with a different genre, each with different style of writing, each with a different point of view.
Like your favorite TV series, we present full three dimensioned characters and storylines while giving you only so much, until the following month. Then like a TV series, we give you a preview for the following month on blog before the new episode premieres the following month.
Compared to serialized stories this concept is a little different in the way we have it laid out and so far people are enjoying it which us a huge plus. At the end there will be a ‘Season Finale’ (printed book of all three stories.), followed by previews of the next Season. (Yes, there will be a Season Two).
Riley Ross Responds:
In the great debate of episode versus serialized fiction, I find that both work well for the reader. In my opinion episodic doesn’t have to maintain the continuity the way serialized stories would. It’s like a long running television show that doesn’t have long storyline arcs. Examples of this are Twilight Zone, very rarely did this show have a plot that played out over several episodes. A great example of serialized fiction are the Sweet Valley High books by Francine Pascal, each book always alluded to the previous book and at the end would always give you a sneak peak of the next book. It all comes down to the reader’s preference.
Tigris Eden Responds:
A huge thank you to Romance Junkies for allowing us to stop by on your blog today!
You can blame this all on Ty Langston J Joking! When Ty and I started talking the biggest question we kept asking ourselves is how to stay out there in the reading community, while working on our other projects. Ty was saying it was important to stay out there and I was agreeing with her, because well she’s a bit more seasoned when it comes to writing, and I welcome any and all advice from my fellow authors.
Originally it was going to be a blog post that we were going to offer through Amazon at .99 a post. But when we realized that this option was not available through kindle fire, Ty and I thought it would be cool to just go ahead and publish them in a book. We came up with Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories as episodes.
Why did we call it episodes? Well that’s simple. There is always that one show, or two that you just have to keep up with. For me, it’s Game of Thrones, Spartacus and of course True Blood. We get all excited and clear our schedules just so we can watch our shows. (Or like me you have to DVR it,) Either way, you look forward to the episode and then wait to watch the preview of the next show at the end. That’s what we want to do with RTBS. We want to give you something that’s only going to take about an hour of your time on any given night, and entertain you.
We try and give previews of the up-coming episodes, to keep you coming back for more, and at .99 cents for each episode, you’re getting a pretty good deal. You get variety; there are three stories, each from a different Genre, and POV. All three stories do have romance as their key element.
I say episodes will be catching on like fire! We’ve gotten really awesome feedback from reviewers and readers a like and we can’t wait to give you all Season 2!

Episode 1 and 2 are out now and Episode 3 is out on December 8th!
Thank you for having us on your blog today! Hope we weren’t too long winded!

By Author Tigris Eden: The Genesis Project
Old earth has been deemed unsuitable for life, New Earth is home. With the Uni-War over, races have joined together in order to sustain their way of life. All life was deemed worth saving, but only one race failed to submit. Humans.
Now extinct, humans are a thing of the past, or at least their way of life. The people of New Earth won’t acknowledge their hand in the human’s eradication, but they have benefited from it. Dr. Vaggo Blackmore has found the answer, he’s restored his races way of life- sustenance through farming. The one thing that will give them back their long lives….. Blood: human blood.
Biologically engineered in a lab, Genesis Blackmore has always been different. Her father has told her it’s due to her enhancements, the Federated Council sees her as a genetic mutation; and her fellow peers see her as the shiny new toy. Gen has had better days.
Everyone on New Earth has milky white skin, platinum blonde hair, and electric blue eyes. It’s the norm. Genesis’ glossy, black hair, ice blue eyes ringed by gold, would have almost made her socially acceptable- if it wasn’t for her honey, almond skin and blue, gold veins. In a sea of milky white she alone is the dark anomaly.
All Pars get their life’s nourishment through blood plasma. All Pars find their match through the tasting. Gen can do neither, forbidden by her father to do so. She can neither taste, nor be tasted. Something that’s never bothered her until now.
