When I grow up…

“You need a plan B,” said Alicia’s mother when at five years old she told her what she wanted to be when she grew up. Thirty odd years later, Alicia is on plan D: sharing a flat, no tangible savings, and working for hateful Julia, whose sole purpose in life is to make her existence utterly miserable. Good thing she has Oscar and the girls to make the long hours at work bearable. But when a series of events tears the close-knit group apart, putting friendships and motives under suspicion, will Alicia be able to restore balance and set things right? More importantly, will she ever be able to upgrade her life to at least plan C?

Author Interview:

please tell us a little bit about your current projects? -Thank you, I´m really happy to be here. I have just finished my novel “When I grow up…” A mystery novel splashed with humour and a hint of romance. The story centres in the life of the main character Alicia, who works as a PA in a law firm and her quest for happiness.

When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer? -Four year ago, I was encouraged to write my first book; a collection of cat stories to help out my local cat rescue. I guess I need a reason to actually complete a book, I haven´t stopped since then.

Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day? -A friend of mine advised me to have a number of people read my work, that way they could be my eyes and spot things I would probably miss.

Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you? For me, the perfect hero/heroine is someone with feet of clay but noble and unselfish. Somebody who will go the extra mile for the people they love. I think heroes are imperfect people who manage to do extraordinary things.

What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections? I am an avid reader, getting lost in a good story is priceless.

What has been your biggest adventure to date? I think finally taking the plunge and making my work public has been my biggest adventure, it was a risk really worth taking.

If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why? I´d have to say Bath, it is charming and enchanting.

When it comes to food, are you the adventurous type who will try anything once, or do you prefer to stick to tried and true foods and recipes? I love experimenting with recipes and trying out new things that do not include fish or seafood.

What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without? What is this romance writer’s idea of the “ideal romantic evening”? I think I have grown too attached to my mobile, funny how a few years ago, I lived perfectly without it. As a writer, my description of an ideal romantic evening would be someone with almost no expertise in the kitchen taking the trouble to cook a three course meal.

How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you? I´d like to think they´d use the word “vivacious” at some point in the description. It´s how I see myself.

What is your favorite comfort food?– Eggs and French fries.

What is your favorite season? What do you love about it? My favourite season is spring. For me, that would be the perfect temperature all the year round.

What project are you working on next? I have started the sequel to the mystery/drama novel “I stand corrected.” Hopefully it will be out in December.
